Pastor Jay Borchert comes to the Debs/Puposky Parish from the Holt Lutheran Parish north of Thief River Falls, MN. Prior to serving in the Holt Parish Pastor Jay served the three point parish in Wannaska, Minn for 7 1/2 years, Riverside church in Wannaska, Pine Grove in Pencer, and Bethesda in Skime. Previously before going into full time parish ministry he was an interim lay pastor for the Northwestern Minnesota Synod of the ELCA since 1965, serving under the last five bishops of the synod, and in various parishes throughout northwestern Minnesota.
In addition to his interim parish ministry position he also was a licensed insurance agent for Horace Mann Insurance Company for 20 years, and then owned his own agency in Thief River Falls, and later worked for Farm Bureau Insurance Company.
Carol and Jay are both graduates of Concordia College, Moorhead, MN as are both of their children. Both have done extensive graduate work at various colleges and universities. Jay attended Luther Theological Seminary in St. Paul for 2 years. Jay's hobbies include fishing, hunting, woodworking, collecting antiques especially pottery, with emphasis on Frankoma, Rosemeade, Land O Lakes, and now Paul Bunyan items. Carol's hobbies include fishing, crafting, quilting and baking. Carol and Jay live on beautiful Balm Lake just a couple of miles north of Trinity Lutheran Church in Debs. |

He is married to Carol (Lehrer) Borchert from the rural Red Lake Falls area, Carol is retired from her position as administrator of the Quin County Community Health Services in Newfolden, MN. She also was a health educator, a home economics teacher, county extension agent. They have been married for 43 years and have two grown children, Gayle Ann married to Jon Morphew and residing in Montecello, MN, and Paul Jay married to Sarah Stoskopf, and living in Howard Lake, Minn. Paul and Sarah have provided Jay and Carol with two granddaughters, Ava, soon to be 4 and Elsa about 4 months.
