![]() For many years the Puposky community, deep in the North Country of Minnesota, had lain as a isolated, and neglected field, as regards to Protestant church activities, to any extent. At various times in the past years laymen, connected with different church bodies, had hopefully entered the field, and endeavored to implant the Gospel among settlers, but due to many handicaps the work would be abandoned. As the population of the area steadily increased, the need for Spiritual sustenence begin to make it self manifest. In August of 1928, President of the Norwegian Lutheran Teachers Association having heard of the need of religious work in this area made a voluntary trip to Puposky. A meeting of those interested was called in the town hall at Puposky and it was decided to obtain aid from the Home MIssion to secure services of a temporary Pastor. Pastor A.E. Hanson who was at that time Pastor of First Lutheran in Bemidji promptly consented to serve Puposky, and that same fall began conducting semi-monthly Sunday services. These were first held at the town hall but later were changed to the Puposky Schoolhouse. Rev. Hanson served Puposky faithfully until his departure from Bemidji in 1934. Rev. Stolee began his work among us shortly before Christmas of 1934. Shortly after his arrival here he married Alice Kolden from Blackduck and moved into a small cottage owned by the Lake Julia San. In 1935 a group of young girls met and organized the Dorcas Circle. On September of 1935 a meeting was called to organize a congregation. A Constitution was drafted and at a later date the congregation was incorporated under the law of Minnesota. On Feb 2nd , 1936 a meeting was called to decide on building a Church for the congregation. A building program was adopted and a committee elected to solicit members for pledges towards a building fund. These pledges, together with other liberal donations from Ladies Aid, The Dorcas Circle, and interested individuals, augumented by an $800.00 loan from the Church Extension Fund provided ample funds for building. A building site was donated by Charles Durand and by July 1936 building operations were underway. The work progressed rapidly and today as you enter Puposky you will see the beautiful little church on the hill, of which the people of the community are justly proud. June 6th 1937 the dedication of their handiwork, took place.
